Manggarai Regency in NTT Extends Emergency Response Status until 28 September
The Manggarai Regency Government in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has once again extended the emergency response status for earthquakes in the region. This second extension will last for 14 days, spanning from 15 to 28 September 2026.
The extension of the emergency status is stipulated in the Decree of the Regent of Manggarai, Herybertus Geradus Laju Nabit, dated 14 September 2026. The Acting Regional Secretary of Manggarai Regency, Lambertus Paput, shared a copy of the decree on Monday (14/9/2026) evening.
“The extension of the emergency response status is set for 14 days, effective from 15 September 2026 until 28 September 2026,” stated Herybertus in the decree.
The decision to extend the emergency status considers the ongoing and fluctuating aftershocks occurring in Manggarai. This situation has resulted in displaced persons remaining in both centralised and independent evacuation posts.
Furthermore, the aftershocks have hindered the construction of temporary shelters in several sub-districts. “Additionally, there is a need for structured trauma healing assistance for affected residents, necessitating appropriate and integrated follow-up handling in accordance with standard disaster management procedures,” Herybertus noted in the decree.
It is noted that Manggarai Regency was one of the areas severely impacted by the 7.7 magnitude Flores earthquake on 15 August, which was followed by a series of aftershocks. Dozens of people have died in the Manggarai region, with the highest number of casualties located in Reo, Reok Sub-district.
In addition to Manggarai, East Manggarai and Nagekeo regencies have also previously extended their emergency response periods. Meanwhile, West Manggarai and Sikka regencies have decided to end their earthquake emergency response status.
