Manggarai-Dukuh Atas Already Has KRL, Jakarta Provincial Government Studies LRT Route Development, Here Are the Two Options
The Jakarta Provincial Government is still conducting studies for the development of a new LRT Jakarta route after it connects to Manggarai. At least, there are two options for LRT Jakarta development: Manggarai-Dukuh Atas and Kelapa Gading-JIS.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that these two options are the main choices for LRT Jakarta development after the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B construction project (Velodrome-Manggarai) is completed. However, to date, no decision has been made on the new LRT Jakarta route.
“Indeed, now within the City Hall internally, including myself, we are still weighing it,” he said on Friday (10/4/2026).
He admitted to having communicated with several parties regarding LRT Jakarta development, one of which is PT KAI. According to him, PT KAI provided input that the Manggarai to Dukuh Atas area already has many public transportation alternatives, one of which is KRL.
“So if there is new construction from Manggarai for LRT Jakarta, of course, whether the economic calculation is feasible or not, that is what we will decide soon,” Pramono said.
On the other hand, the Jakarta Provincial Government has also obtained permission to develop the LRT Jakarta route from Kelapa Gading to Ancol. That route development will also pass through Tanjung Priok and JIS.
“For the loop from Velodrome, Kelapa Gading and so on entering Tanjung Priok, JIS, then to Ancol, the route has already received approval. It’s just a matter of building,” he said.
Nevertheless, Pramono revealed that his side still needs to conduct thorough studies. Including regarding the budget needs for LRT Jakarta development.
“We are calculating, of course, what the budget is and so on. We will decide soon. It has been discussed twice, this will be the third time,” he said.
Previously, the President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), Iwan Takwin, said that his party would not stop extending the LRT Jakarta route only up to Manggarai. However, there is no final decision on which route will be developed next.
“Then how about the continuity ahead after this 1B network is carried out? Indeed, in parallel, Jakpro is also preparing the LRT Jakarta masterplan,” he said during a conversation with the media at Taman Ismail Marzuki on Friday (6/3/2026).
In his presentation, there are two options for extending the LRT Jakarta route after the Phase 1B project is completed. The first option is to continue construction from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas (Phase 1C). Meanwhile, the other option is to build the LRT Jakarta route from Kelapa Gading to Jakarta International Stadium or JIS (Phase 2A).
