Manggar Reservoir Water Level Drops, Clean Water Supply at Risk

Officers inspected the water level gauge at Manggar Reservoir in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday (19/8/2026). Over the past month, the reservoir’s water volume has continued to shrink amid an absence of rainfall in the Balikpapan area. Perumda Tirta Manuntung Balikpapan (PTMB) recorded that the reservoir’s water volume fell from around 16,000 cubic metres to 12,000 cubic metres. The condition has caused the water surface to recede by about three centimetres per day and could potentially disrupt the clean water supply for Balikpapan residents within the next three months.
