Manggala Agni tackles forest and land fire along Kayuagung-Palembang toll road
Palembang (ANTARA) - Manggala Agni has been tackling a forest and land fire (karhutla) next to the Kayuagung-Palembang section of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) at KM 356, South Sumatra, on Tuesday.
Ferdian Krisnanto, Head of the Sumatra Region Forest Fire Control Agency at the Ministry of Forestry, stated in Palembang on Tuesday that the fire had caused smoke to blanket the toll road, disrupting visibility for motorists.
In response to the situation, Manggala Agni personnel were deployed to the location to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
Police were already on the toll road to manage traffic due to the visibility conditions affected by the smoke.
“The cause and the area of land burned cannot yet be confirmed because the focus is currently on extinguishing the fire,” he said.
Ferdian stated that officers would conduct data collection once conditions at the site allow and the fire has been brought under control.
Motorists travelling along the Kayuagung-Palembang JTTS, particularly around KM 356, are urged to exercise increased caution and follow the directions of officers on the ground during the firefighting operation.
