Mangga Dua Selatan bridge repairs reach 90 percent

Repairs to a connecting bridge in RT 11/RW 10, Mangga Dua Selatan Urban Village, Central Jakarta, have reached approximately 90 percent after the Central Jakarta City Government followed up on residents’ complaints regarding damage to the bridge.

Mangga Dua Selatan Urban Village Secretary Irwandi said the connecting bridge repairs were carried out by the Central Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency after receiving residents’ complaints on 18 August 2026.

“This bridge is one of the most vital connectors for residents. Its condition is now nearly complete,” Irwandi said in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

He explained that the repairs include rehabilitation of the bridge floor, replacement of the angle iron frame and wire mesh, re-casting, and installation of guardrails on both sides of the bridge to improve user safety.

Irwandi said the bridge was previously built through community self-help efforts and had received corporate social responsibility (CSR) assistance from the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation.

Meanwhile, RW 10 Mangga Dua Selatan Chairman Sumari appreciated the government’s response to residents’ complaints.

According to him, the bridge had previously collapsed, forcing residents to use an alternative route.

He said the bridge’s existence shortens residents’ mobility. If it cannot be used, the community must detour approximately 200 metres via an alternative road.

Sumari hopes residents will help maintain the cleanliness and condition of the bridge after repairs are completed so that it can be used safely in the long term.

“Thank you for the swift action from Mangga Dua Selatan Urban Village and its staff who responded quickly to residents’ complaints. Previously this bridge had collapsed and was often repaired through mutual cooperation by residents and RT/RW administrators,” Sumari said.
