Mandiri's Livin’ QRIS Now Usable in China, Enabling Transactions Without Currency Exchange
JAKARTA – PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk is expanding its cross-border QR service on the Livin’ by Mandiri app to China. This expansion complements the service’s previous availability in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea.
Bank Mandiri’s Director of Network and Retail Banking, Jan Winston Tambunan, stated that the step is driven by the continuous growth in overseas transactions, alongside a shift in customer behaviour towards global digital payments.
He noted that the significant growth in cross-border transactions indicates a shift in customer behaviour towards global digital payments.
Through the Cross-Border QR feature in Livin’ by Mandiri, customers can make payments at millions of merchants in China that accept QR codes with the UnionPay or Alipay logo.
Transactions can be completed simply by scanning the QR code via the Scan QR Pay feature, without the need to exchange cash.
Additionally, Bank Mandiri provides a multi-currency yuan (CNY) account opening service linked to Mandiri Debit. This facility allows customers to withdraw cash at Visa-logo ATMs in China without currency conversion.
This growth reflects the increasing customer demand for practical and integrated international payment services.
Overall, Livin’ by Mandiri’s performance also shows a positive trend. The number of app users has exceeded 39.1 million, with a total transaction value reaching Rp1,200 trillion as of March 2026.
Meanwhile, QRIS adoption has grown strongly, with the number of users reaching 9.9 million, up 41% year-on-year. The QRIS transaction value was recorded at Rp64 trillion, an increase of 76% year-on-year.
This step is taken in line with the rising trend of cross-border transactions and customer needs for increasingly practical and integrated digital payment solutions.
