Expansion to China is an important step to ensure customers can transact easily in one of the world’s largest digital payment ecosystems. Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk states that the QR Cross-Border service on the Livin’ by Mandiri app can now be used for transactions in China, following previous coverage of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea. Bank Mandiri’s Director of Network and Retail Banking, Jan Winston Tambunan, in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday, said the expansion is supported by the rapidly growing performance of overseas transactions in the early part of the year. The QR Cross-Border service recorded a surge in transaction value of 137 per cent (year-on-year/yoy) reaching Rp154 billion by March 2026. “The very significant growth in cross-border transactions indicates a shift in customer behaviour towards global digital payments. Expansion to China is an important step to ensure customers can transact easily in one of the destinations with the world’s largest digital payment ecosystem,” said Jan. Through the QR Cross-Border feature, customers can transact at merchants displaying the UnionPay or Alipay logo in China without needing to exchange cash or convert currencies. Bank Mandiri also provides supporting services in the form of multicurrency Yuan (CNY) account openings connected to Mandiri Debit. With this service, customers can withdraw cash at Visa-logo ATMs in China without currency conversion. Overall, Livin’ by Mandiri demonstrates solid performance, reflected in the number of users exceeding 39.1 million and total transaction value reaching Rp1,200 trillion by March 2026. QRIS adoption also grew strongly with 9.9 million users up 41 per cent (yoy) and transaction value reaching Rp64 trillion surging 76 per cent (yoy). Looking ahead, Bank Mandiri states it will continue to expand the QR Cross-Border coverage to other strategic destinations, in line with the increasing trend of cross-border transactions and the need for more practical and integrated digital payment solutions.
