Mandiri Utama Finance Develops Waste Bank Programme in Rorotan
Jakarta — Mandiri Utama Finance (MUF) is realising its commitment to environmental preservation and community empowerment through the development of a waste bank programme in the Rorotan area, Cilincing, North Jakarta. The Corporate Secretary & Head of Legal Division of Mandiri Utama Finance, Elisabeth Lidya Sirai, said the collaboration with Yayasan Kumala and the North Jakarta Environment Agency was carried out by providing facilities and infrastructure for the waste bank, along with financial literacy education so that the waste management results can be managed more productively and sustainably. ‘Through the waste bank programme in Rorotan, we want to deliver a tangible contribution that not only affects the environment but also helps raise the welfare of the community,’ she said in Jakarta on Wednesday. The initiative has received a positive response from the community because it is perceived to provide real benefits, both in terms of environmental cleanliness and increases in residents’ economic value. The programme is expected to encourage the community to be more proactive in separating and managing household waste into economically valuable products. In addition to helping create a cleaner environment, according to Elisabeth, the activity also aims to improve financial literacy and residents’ economic independence. She hopes the programme can be the first step in building a culture of environmental concern within the community and inspire various parties to work together to create a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable environment. Meanwhile, Head of North Jakarta Environmental Service Sub-Department, Edy Mulyanto, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration established in the activity. ‘The waste bank programme is the answer to the waste challenges in the Rorotan area, North Jakarta,’ he said. Through this programme, he said, the community is invited to manage waste from its source by sorting and utilising waste that has economic value. Edy stated that besides helping reduce the burden on the final disposal site at Bantar Gebang, the programme also provides financial benefits while raising environmental awareness among the community.
