Mandiri books Rp2.75t in profit

JAKARTA: PT Bank Mandiri posted last year an after-tax profit
of Rp2.75 trillion (some US$275 million), up from Rp1.1 trillion
recorded in 2000, according to a statement.

It also said that during 2001, the bank channeled a total of
Rp49 trillion in loans, or a 12 percent increase from the year
before. That brought the bank's net interest income to 7.11
trillion in 2001 from 2000's Rp6.4 trillion.

The bank's nonperforming loans fell from 20 percent in 2000 to
9.7 percent of total loans in 2001.

As of Dec. 31, the bank's capital adequacy ratio (CAR) stood
at 26 percent, a 4 percent lower compared with that of 2000's.

The statement also stated that Mandiri received last year
Rp23.14 trillion in net interest income from the government
bonds, as against Rp20.24 trillion obtained in 2000. --JP
