Mandela arrives for Congo talks
WINDHOEK (DPA): South African President Nelson Mandela arrived
in Windhoek on Wednesday for private talks with Namibian
President Sam Nujoma over the situation in the Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC).
The talks, which are expected to center around the conflict in
the DRC for which Mandela is trying to seek a diplomatic
solution, forms part of a series of meetings between the South
African president and key players in the region.
On his arrival at Eros airport Mandela was welcomed by Nujoma,
Namibian prime minister Hage Geingov, foreign minister Theo-Ben
Gurirab and the country's mines and energy minister Andimba Toivo
ya Toivo.
South Africa's latest peace initiative in the DRC has involved
confidential talks between Mandela and Ugandan President Yoweri
Museveni and private talks with the vice President of Rwanda Paul
Kagame.
