Mandala victims to be compensated soon
JAKARTA: The families and relatives of victims who were killed
or injured in last week's crash of a Mandala Airlines plane in
Medan, North Sumatra, are expected to receive compensation from
state insurance firm PT Jamsostek on Thursday.
"We have received confirmation from Minister of Manpower and
Transmigration Fahmi Idris that he is ready to hand over the
compensation on behalf of the government," Jamsostek operational
and service director Tjarda Muchtar said on Monday.
He said the company has prepared some Rp 1.9 billion
(US$190,000) for the crash victims including five Mandala crew.
The accident on Sept. 5 killed at least 151 people -- 102 on
board the plane and the rest on the ground -- as the plane
slammed into a densely populated area near the Polonia Airport.
