Mandala Bus Terminal in Lebak Intensifies Vehicle Safety Inspections
Lebak, Banten — Mandala Bus Terminal in Lebak, Banten, is intensifying safety inspections (ramp checks) of intercity buses operating during the 2026 Ramadan holiday travel season.
“We conduct vehicle inspections daily to ensure all buses carrying Ramadan holiday travellers are roadworthy,” said Muksin, Head of Mandala Bus Terminal in Rangkasbitung, Lebak, on Saturday.
The terminal operates 61 bus units for holiday travel services, making vehicle condition critical to ensure passenger safety.
Ramp checks on intercity buses are conducted by the Motor Vehicle Testing team from Banten Province’s Transport Office. Inspections cover vehicle documentation completeness, physical condition checks, and criteria including visual inspection of the vehicle, tyres, brakes, wipers, lights, and emergency glass breakers.
Drivers and bus crew also undergo health examinations by medical teams from Lebak District Health Office and drug screening by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Banten Province. The BNN screening involves urine tests to detect drug use.
“If a driver tests positive for narcotics, we recommend he not be allowed to operate the holiday transport vehicle,” Muksin explained.
The terminal operates 61 intercity bus units across eight routes from five bus companies. Additionally, 12 units operate as provincial city transport and 25 units as rural transport.
The provincial city transport buses serve routes within Banten Province, including Rangkasbitung–Tangerang–Serang–Merak–Bayah–Wanasalam–Labuan.
Rural transport buses serve 28 subdistricts in Lebak District.
“We predict peak passenger numbers during the outbound travel period four days before Ramadan at 2,500–3,500 people,” Muksin said.
