Aston Villa spoiled Pep Guardiola’s farewell party in his final match as Manchester City manager. His decade-long tenure, which yielded 20 trophies, ended in a bitter 1-2 defeat at Etihad Stadium.
With the Premier League title already secured by a London club, this match was purely a farewell tribute for Guardiola, John Stones, and Bernardo Silva.
Silva nearly created a beautiful moment early on after a collaboration with Savinho, but his shot was saved by Villa’s goalkeeper Marco Bizot. City broke the deadlock in the first half when Antoine Semenyo, unmarked at the far post, converted from a Tijjani Reijnders corner.
City continued to press and created several chances through Savinho, but Bizot’s excellent goalkeeping kept Villa only one goal down at halftime.

Rather than defend, Villa continued to attack aggressively, nearly adding to their lead when Leon Bailey’s shot struck the post.
In stoppage time, Phil Foden appeared to have scored a last-gasp equaliser, but VAR controversially disallowed it for offside.
