The management of Negara General Hospital (RSU Negara) has spoken out regarding the discovery of medical waste discarded outside the hospital premises in containers labelled with the hospital’s name. The hospital is currently conducting a thorough investigation.

“At this time, we are still tracing the cause,” stated the Director of RSU Negara, I Gusti Agung Putu Arisanta, when confirmed on Tuesday (29/09/2026).

To fully investigate the incident, RSU Negara will review CCTV footage within the hospital environment. This step is being taken to identify the party responsible for transporting or removing the medical waste from the hospital area.

“One of the steps we are taking is checking the CCTV to determine who removed the waste from the hospital,” Arisanta emphasised.

Arisanta explained that medical waste management at RSU Negara has been conducted in accordance with strict standard operating procedures (SOP). The hospital has also established official partnerships with licensed third-party providers, covering everything from the collection process to final disposal.

“The process for waste usually involves official hospital staff collecting it, after which the medical waste is transported by a third party for final destruction. According to the SOP, medical waste transport is carried out routinely every two days by official transporters for subsequent disposal in accordance with applicable regulations,” Arisanta explained.

In response to this incident, RSU Negara is committed to continuously improving internal supervision. The hospital ensures that all management of hazardous and toxic (B3) medical waste adheres to safety standards and prevailing laws and regulations. “We hope that a similar incident does not recur,” Arisanta concluded.

It was previously reported that several plastic bags containing hazardous and toxic (B3) waste, or medical waste, were found discarded on the side of the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road, specifically south of Negara General Hospital, Negara District, Jembrana Regency, on Monday (28/09/2026).

Observations at the location showed the medical waste wrapped in seven yellow plastic bags and four white plastic bags. Inside were numerous used infusion bags and several medicine bottles bearing patient names and the RSU Negara logo.

A resident who first discovered the waste claimed to have accidentally spotted the pile of plastic while stopping at a junction to cross the road.

“Because it felt strange that the waste was just thrown away like that, I reported the finding to the police. While waiting to cross, I saw the pile, and it turned out to be infusions and medicine bottles,” said the man, who requested anonymity, when interviewed on Monday (28/09/2026).
