Manado's Power System Successfully Restored Following Magnitude 7.6 Earthquake
PT PLN, through its Sulawesi Utara, Sulawesi Tengah, and Gorontalo Distribution Unit (UID Suluttenggo), has successfully restored the electricity system in Manado and its surroundings following the magnitude 7.6 earthquake. “Thanks to the preparedness of personnel on the ground, all electrical infrastructure that was previously affected is now operational again,” said General Manager of PLN UID Suluttenggo, Usman Bangun, on Thursday, 2 April 2026. According to him, exactly at 1:51 PM WITA, the percentage of electricity coverage reached 100%. The restoration efforts included normalising 14 transmission lines or feeders and reactivating 887 distribution substations spread across the affected areas. He expressed appreciation for the hard work of the field teams and the patience of the community during the restoration process. “We understand that electricity is a vital need, especially in emergency conditions after an earthquake. Since the first tremors were felt, our team immediately moved to conduct inspections and gradual restoration,” he stated. Usman added that during the normalisation process, PLN continued to prioritise public and personnel safety. The technical team conducted thorough checks to ensure no infrastructure had structural damage that could endanger before fully restoring power to customers. PLN urged the public to remain alert. If they find potential hazards such as exposed cables, leaning poles, or sparks on PLN assets, the community is asked to report them immediately through official channels. “The public can use the PLN Mobile application to report disruptions or obtain the latest information on electricity,” said Usman. “We are committed to continuously maintaining the reliability of electricity supply for the comfort of all customers,” he added.
