Manado quiet after New Year

MANADO, North Sulawesi: On the second day of the new year, North Sulawesi capital Manado was quiet and tranquil.

Main thoroughfares in the city, which are usually congested, were deserted, while outlets at shopping malls were still closed, as was the case in Karombasan, Kali Jengki and Paal Dua.

Some government offices were also languid, as many of the civil servants were still in the sway of the holiday mood.

After a storm and flood hit the city a week ago, Friday found Manado skies to be clear. -- Antara
