Manado Floods: 747 Evacuated and 468 Homes Submerged
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that 747 people have been evacuated due to flooding in Manado City, North Sulawesi, which flooded several residential areas. The disaster was triggered by heavy rainfall causing downstream drainage systems to overflow. Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB’s Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, stated that 314 households (968 people) were directly affected, with floodwaters inundating at least 468 homes at varying depths. The affected areas span five villages within four districts. BNPB confirmed that joint field teams have coordinated logistics and emergency shelter provisions to ensure evacuees’ basic needs, including food and supplies, are met. Although water levels are receding, residents are urged to remain vigilant against potential further rainfall, as some drainage systems remain unable to handle peak flows during extreme weather.
