Man With Shaved Head Appears at Scene of Acid Attack on KontraS Official Andrie Yunus
Jakarta — A man with a shaved head was seen at the location where acid was poured onto Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), on Jalan Salemba I, Senen, Central Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).
The man appeared after the incident occurred.
“Andrie helped us understand what happened. He explained that when the acid attack occurred, he fell down, and then residents helped him,” said Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of the KontraS Executive Board, at the YLBHI Office in Menteng, Central Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026).
Yunus provided this account after arriving at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).
Andrie Yunus screamed in pain after being doused with caustic acid by two unknown perpetrators on Jalan Salemba, Senen District, Central Jakarta on Thursday evening.
Dimas Bagus Arya stated that residents immediately rushed to assist Andrie after the incident.
“The acid hit the victim’s right side of the body, particularly the eyes, face, chest and hands, causing the victim to scream until he stopped and dropped his motorcycle,” said Dimas at a press conference at the YLBHI Office in Menteng, Central Jakarta on Friday.
Based on Andrie’s account, he continuously screamed for help, crying “Ah, ah, ah, it’s hot,” he explained.
Residents and drivers in the surrounding area immediately gathered and surrounded Andrie.
Dimas revealed that Andrie’s clothes melted immediately after the acid was poured on him. Andrie then immediately removed his clothing.
“Meanwhile, the suspected perpetrators quickly fled towards Salemba I and Jalan Salemba Raya,” Dimas stated. The suspected perpetrators also dropped a stainless steel glass whilst attempting to escape.
Afterwards, Andrie took his motorcycle and went to his rented accommodation in Menteng via a back road.
Upon arriving at his accommodation, Andrie was assisted by his friends and taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta. Andrie immediately received medical treatment afterwards.
“Andrie was treated by six doctors with different specialisations,” said Dimas. The doctors consisted of specialists in eyes, ear, nose and throat (ENT), neurology, orthopaedics, thoracic (chest), internal medicine and dermatology.
Based on the preliminary diagnosis by the RSCM medical team, Andrie sustained burns to 24 per cent of his body. “Andrie is currently undergoing eye surgery to replace amnion tissue or perform a graft under local anaesthesia,” Dimas added.
