A man named Mindis (28), was found dead after being attacked by a crocodile while swimming in Muara Naus, Soliu Village, Amfoang Barat Laut District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Mindis’s body was found on Sunday (May 17, 2026) afternoon.

“Intensive search efforts have finally yielded results. The victim has been found in a state of death,” said the Head of the Kupang Search and Rescue Office, Mexianus Bekabel, to detikBali, Sunday.

Mexianus explained that Mindis was found when the SAR team searched the location using an inflatable boat with a search area of approximately 500 meters to one kilometer.

After being found, his body was then evacuated and handed over to the police and family for further processing. According to Mexianus, with the discovery of the victim, the SAR operation is declared complete.

“We urge the public to be more vigilant about the presence of crocodiles in the surrounding waters and avoid activities in locations that could endanger safety,” said Mexianus.

Meanwhile, the Head of Soliu Village, Markus Akulas, revealed that Mindis had been residing in Dusun 3, Soliu Village. However, he was not an original local resident, but the locals considered him as one of them.

In addition, Mindis is suspected to be a person with mental health issues and has lived in Soliu Village since 2015. According to Markus, when found, there were several bite marks on the right base of his body. Then the right thigh was broken, the right leg had bite marks and several scratches on the right hand.

“For now, the body has been handed over to the Head of RT 06 for the burial process. Because the person is a mentally ill person who has been in Soliu since 2015, without anyone knowing him. However, he has been living with the residents,” said Markus.

The incident began when Mindis and a friend went to the location to swim around 8:30 am on Saturday (May 16). Mindis then took off his clothes and walked towards the edge of the estuary.

Suddenly, a crocodile came and attacked and dragged Mindis into the water. After that, his panicked friend tried to look for Mindis. Because it didn’t produce results, he then reported the incident to several residents and was forwarded to the police.

The family also reported the incident to the Kupang SAR Office to get search assistance. As many as nine SAR personnel were immediately deployed to the location.
