Man Who Held and Raped Female Student in Makassar Arrested; See His Photo
The suspect was apprehended at the Tanjung Perak Surabaya port on Saturday (16/5) at approximately 3:00 PM local time. The arrest was carried out by personnel from the Makassar Police, assisted by members of the East Java Regional Police’s Cyber Unit, the Surabaya Police, and the Tanjung Perak Port Police.
“He was arrested yesterday afternoon in Surabaya,” said Head of Sub-Unit 2 of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Jatanras) of the Makassar Police, Ipda Supriadi Gaffar, as quoted by detikSulsel on Sunday (17/5/2026).
In a circulating video, several passengers are seen exiting a ship that has docked at the port. Shortly after, the suspect emerges wearing a hat, a grey t-shirt, and carrying a black backpack.
The police, who were wearing t-shirts, then apprehended the suspect among the passengers disembarking from the ship’s stairs. The suspect appears to have short hair and tanned skin.
The suspect was asked to lie face down on the ground while his belongings were secured by the authorities. The suspect’s hands were then handcuffed using cable ties.
“The suspect has been taken to the Makassar Police headquarters for further investigation,” said Head of Sub-Unit 2 of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Jatanras) of the Makassar Police, Ipda Supriadi Gaffar, to detikSulsel on Sunday (17/5).
Makassar Student Held Captive for 3 Days
The suspect raped a female student in a housing complex on Jalan Metro Tanjung Bunga, Barombong Village, Tamalate District, from Friday (8/5) to Sunday (10/5). The case began when the victim was interested in a job advertisement offering a position as a nanny or babysitter posted by the suspect on social media.
“The victim arrived, and she was told that she would have to wait a few days before starting work,” said Makassar Police Chief Kombes Arya Perdana on Sunday (17/5).
“During the waiting period, the victim worked at the house for about two days as a domestic helper,” added Arya.
The suspect committed his crime on the third day of the victim’s stay at the suspect’s rented house. The victim was threatened with a cutter knife.
“The suspect entered the victim’s room and then assaulted her, threatening her with a cutter knife to rape her,” he said.
