Jakarta — Police have finally arrested a man who claimed to be a security official and assaulted three petrol station employees in the Cipinang area of Pulogadung, East Jakarta.

“We have just received the information. He has been apprehended,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dicky F Bachriel, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

When asked how many individuals were detained, he confirmed that only one person had been arrested. He declined to elaborate further on the apprehension of the man who had shouted references to a “general’s car” and “police chief.”

Previously, police had disclosed the initial chronology of the assault on three petrol station workers in the Cipinang area of Pulogadung, East Jakarta, by a man claiming to be a security official.

The East Jakarta Metropolitan Police confirmed that the case was being handled with the utmost seriousness. An investigation was ongoing to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident, which had gone viral on social media.

Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dicky F Bachriel explained the sequence of events. He said the incident began when the suspect attempted to fill up with Pertalite, a subsidised fuel grade.

“The individual wanted to purchase Pertalite but was refused service by the petrol station,” he said on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

The refusal, he explained, was not without reason. The barcode presented by the suspect did not correspond to the vehicle he was driving at the time.

“The licence plate did not match. It was not designated for that vehicle,” he said.

It is believed that the dispute escalated from that point, ultimately leading to the assault on the petrol station attendants. However, police have not yet provided further details regarding the nature of the violence or the suspect’s identity.

“Yes, we are still investigating,” Dicky said.

The suspect, believed to be a rogue official, had reportedly claimed that the vehicle he was driving belonged to a general in connection with the alleged assault on an operator during the refuelling process at the Cipinang petrol station in Pulogadung, East Jakarta.

“He said, ‘Do you not know this is a general’s barcode? Don’t you know this is a general’s barcode?’ He kept repeating that,” said Lukman Hakim, a 19-year-old petrol station operator and one of the assault victims, in East Jakarta on Monday.
