Jakarta, VIVA – The case of three petrol station employees being assaulted in the Cipinang area, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, by a man claiming to be a law enforcement officer, is now being handled seriously by police authorities.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) confirmed that an investigation into the man, who claimed the vehicle he was driving belonged to a general, is currently underway. Together with the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Polda Metro Jaya is actively tracing the identity of the man who claimed to be a security apparatus member.

“East Jakarta Police and the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya are currently looking deeper into the incident and the person who claimed to be a law enforcement officer,” said the Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

The former Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at South Jakarta Metropolitan Police stressed that if the perpetrator is proven to be a member of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the case will be referred to the Professional and Security Division (Propam).

“However, if it is proven that this individual is a member of Polri, Propam will follow up,” he said.

Previously reported, a man suspected of being a rogue law enforcement officer had claimed that the vehicle he was driving belonged to a general, in connection with an alleged assault on an operator during the process of filling fuel at a public petrol station (SPBU) in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta.

“He said, ‘Do you know whose barcode this is? This is a general’s barcode. Don’t you know this is a general’s barcode?’ He kept repeating that,” said one of the petrol station operators who was a victim of the assault, Lukman Hakim (19), in East Jakarta, on Monday.

According to Lukman, the suspicion that the man was a law enforcement officer arose from his own repeated claims, in which he continuously referenced high-ranking police titles.

The remarks were made during a dispute over a discrepancy with the fuel purchase barcode for Pertalite-grade petrol.

Lukman said he was shocked and frightened when the customer repeatedly invoked the identity of senior police officials.

Not only did he mention “general”, the man also uttered the word “Kapolda” (Regional Police Chief) whilst shouting at the staff.

The statement, he said, caused tensions to flare at the location and prompted the staff to act cautiously.

“We started thinking — what if he really is a law enforcement officer or is carrying a firearm? So we didn’t dare to resist,” Lukman said.

Indeed, in video footage that has circulated online, the word “Kapolda” can be clearly heard being uttered as he berated the staff.
