Man Threatens Jakarta Elementary School with Bomb Hoax Over Child's Uniform Dispute
Police have revealed the confession of 34-year-old MY, the man who sent a bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi elementary school in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. He told police he was upset with the school.
“The motive for this incident, based on the suspect’s statement, is that the suspect felt upset with one of the school officials, so he took it out with this act,” said South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head AKP Joko Adiwibowo to reporters on Wednesday (15/7/2026).
MY admitted to having previously communicated with the school regarding his child’s uniform. His child is also a student at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi. However, according to Joko, the suspect felt the school’s response was not good, which led to the bomb threat.
“A few days before the incident, there was communication with the school about the uniform issue. But the response was perceived by the suspect as not good,” he said.
“A few days before the incident, he asked about the uniform. The answer was, ‘Don’t bother buying the uniform, I know your situation,’ something like that. So it seems he felt offended,” Joko added.
Joko stated that the suspect did not expect his actions to cause such a commotion. The suspect also expressed regret for his actions.
“The suspect actually did not realise that his actions would become this big of a deal. And from the examination, the suspect regrets the incident he caused,” he said.
MY has now been named a suspect. He is charged under Article 600 and/or Article 601 of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
The bomb threat was sent while students were attending a ceremony on Monday (13/7) morning. Following a sweep by the Gegana bomb squad and the Densus 88 counter-terrorism unit, no explosives were found at the location.
