Man Suspected of Electrocution at Pancoran LRT Station Substation

A man was found dead, suspected of being electrocuted, inside a connecting substation asset at the Pancoran LRT Station, Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9) night. According to PLN, the substation has sustained damage.

“Based on the initial examination, damage was found in several parts of the PLN assets. The door of the Connecting Substation, which was previously locked, was found damaged and open,” said Haris Andika, Senior Manager of Communications and General Affairs at PLN UID Jakarta Raya, in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/9).

Haris stated that PLN received information regarding a man found dead at the PLN Connecting Substation near the Pancoran LRT Station, South Jakarta. Consequently, PLN conducted an inspection of the electrical assets at the location.

“Several cables and components inside the substation are not in their proper condition,” he said.

PLN is currently coordinating with the Police to conduct an investigation to determine the cause and chronology of the man’s death at the Pancoran LRT Station substation.

The unidentified man was suspected to have died from high-voltage electrocution while attempting to steal cables from the substation used for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) operations in the Pancoran area, South Jakarta.

The victim allegedly entered the substation area from the bottom while carrying a plastic bag containing a hacksaw and a hat. He then climbed to the second floor of the substation and is believed to have died from high-voltage electrocution.

Police suspect theft was the motive, as a hacksaw and a plastic bag carried by the victim were discovered. The man’s body has been evacuated, and LRT services continue to operate normally.
