Man Stabs Ex-Wife at Child's Wedding Reception in Revenge Attack
A revenge-motivated stabbing occurred in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. The perpetrator, a 67-year-old man identified as EF, targeted his ex-wife, ES, aged 55. The shocking act took place unexpectedly during the sacred moment of their child’s wedding reception, which turned tense due to EF’s actions against ES.
Acting During Child’s Wedding
The incident occurred on Saturday, 23 May at 12:00 WIB. EF initially attended the wedding reception held at Jalan Sunter Karya Timur. As they shook hands on the reception stage, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife he is believed to have prepared beforehand.
“The suspect had prepared a letter and knife to stab the victim,” said Tanjung Priok Police Station Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Handam Samudro, reported by Antara on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
EF concealed the knife in his bag and stabbed the victim once during the handshake.
“The motive for the criminal act is suspected to be revenge, though we are still investigating,” said Hamdan.
Suspect Charged
Police immediately responded to the scene after receiving reports from residents. The suspect was arrested and is now formally charged.
“We promptly arrived at the scene to gather witness statements and other evidence. The suspect faces charges under Article 468 of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code for premeditated assault, which carries a maximum four-year prison sentence,” Hamdan said.
Suspect Carried Letter
Hamdan stated the suspect brought a letter written before attending the wedding reception, detailing his grievances against his ex-wife from their marriage.
“Before leaving for his child’s wedding reception, the suspect typed a letter outlining his disappointment and resentment towards the victim in several points,” Hamdan said when contacted on Sunday, 24 May.
Police believe the stabbing was motivated by revenge based on the letter. The victim is receiving treatment for a single stab wound.
