SOUTH TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com — A 27-year-old man identified as ES became the victim of a gang assault after confronting two alleged extortionists who were demanding money from traders at Bukit Market in Serua, Ciputat District, South Tangerang City (Tangsel) on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The Ciputat Timur Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Bambang Askar Sodiq, said the incident began when the victim was helping his brother sell goods at Bukit Market. At that time, the victim observed two men identified as AS (29) and MR (28) allegedly demanding money from several traders in the market.

However, the victim’s remonstration offended AS and MR, prompting both men to engage in a heated verbal dispute with ES. Finding the argument futile, the victim left the location. The two perpetrators then chased ES to Maruga Raya Street in Maruga Village, Serua, near the South Tangerang Mayor’s Office.

“After successfully cornering the victim, the perpetrators carried out the gang assault. One of the perpetrators also slashed the victim with a knife,” Bambang said.

As a result of the attack, the victim sustained stab wounds to his right thigh, left calf, and left sole, as well as bruising around his left eye. ES was immediately taken to Permata Pamulang Hospital for medical treatment.

Witnesses to the incident secured the perpetrators before handing them over to police. Officers responding to the report quickly apprehended AS and MR at the scene. Both perpetrators have been designated as suspects and charged under Article 262 (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code relating to gang assault offences.

Police are continuing their search for evidence in the form of the sharp weapon used in the incident.
