Man shot dead for stealing wood

DEMAK, Central Java: A man was shot dead and two others
escaped after stealing teakwood from a forest in Karangawen,
Demak, on Saturday.

Quoting sources at the provincial police in Semarang, Antara
reported that the suspect, identified as War, 20, was shot in his
back and died on his way to the town hospital.

Warning shots were fired but the forest rangers were unable to
detain the criminals fleeing the scene. The two escapees are
still at large. (rms)
