Man robbed outside bank

JAKARTA (JP): Menteng Police detectives are searching for two men who robbed a man outside the Menteng branch of the BNI bank on Jl. Cut Meutiah at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Central Jakarta Police chief of detectives Capt. Hendra Suhartiyono identified the victim as Dartam, 35, a customer of the bank's Menteng branch.

"The victim just left the bank after he had exchanged his rupiah for US$530 when a man suddenly snatched his bag containing the dollars and some Rp 1.5 million in cash," Hendra said.

"The suspect rushed to a waiting RX King motorcycle, which was driven by an accomplice, and they took off."

Separately, angry residents of Kadu village in the Sukamulya area of Cikupa, Tangerang, mobbed an alleged motorcycle thief to death at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

A Tangerang Police source identified the dead suspect as Ruslandi, 28, a resident of Jl. Tebet Timur in South Jakarta.

The motorcycle owner is Yoyo bin Pardi, 25, a resident of Semper village in Cikupa.

"Yoyo was passing through the area when he was stopped by the suspect, who was armed with a sharp weapon. The suspect tried to push the victim off the motorcycle," the police source said.

"The victim screamed for help. Local residents came and mobbed the thief to death." (ylt)
