Man Posing as Police Officer Allegedly Hypnotises Motorcycle Taxi Driver in East Jakarta, Promises 300,000 Rupiah to Solicit Ride
JAKARTA - A man claiming to be the Head of the Narcotics Unit at the Jakarta Metro Police is suspected of hypnotising a motorcycle taxi driver at a petrol station in the Makasar area of East Jakarta. According to AKP Fadoli, the Criminal Investigation Head at Kramat Jati Police Station, the victim was enticed with a payment of 300,000 rupiah to provide rides. “The suspect asked to be taken to Makasar Police Station, claiming to be the Head of the Narcotics Unit at the Jakarta Metro Police who was conducting a narcotics operation, and promised to pay the motorcycle taxi driver 300,000 rupiah,” Fadoli explained on Monday, 2 March 2026. After reaching Makasar Police Station, the suspect asked the driver to take him to Gang Langgar in Kramat Jati. Upon arrival, the suspect requested to borrow the victim’s motorcycle, but instead fled with it. Police are still searching for the suspect. “The suspect remains at large; two witnesses have been interviewed,” Fadoli stated. The incident occurred on Friday, 27 February 2026 at approximately 21:30 Western Indonesian Time at the Makasar petrol station in East Jakarta. A petrol station attendant, Agus Sunarya (50), confirmed that the victim’s motorcycle was taken by the suspect. Agus stated he immediately coordinated with his supervisor and the local neighbourhood chair. When he attempted to verify the suspect’s identity by making calls, the suspect and victim suddenly left the location. “After I called the neighbourhood chair, they left almost immediately. I haven’t seen them since,” Agus said. “The victim told me he had been hypnotised and his motorcycle was taken. It was driven away in the Kramat Jati area.”
