A man made off with a motorcycle belonging to an ojek driver by dangling the promise of 300,000 rupiah payment in the Kramat Jati area of East Jakarta. The suspect claimed to be a Head of Unit (Kasat) for the Narcotics Division of the Jakarta Metro Police.

“The suspected perpetrator asked to be driven to Makasar Police Station and claimed to be the Kasat Narkoba of the Jakarta Metro Police while apprehending a drug offender. The perpetrator promised to pay the ojek fare to the victim of 300,000 rupiah,” explained AKP Fadoli, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Kramat Jati Police Station, as reported by Antara on Monday, 2 March 2026.

The incident began when the victim met the suspected perpetrator, who claimed to be a Kasat Narkoba from the Jakarta Metro Police and was pursuing a drug abuse perpetrator.

“Tempted by the fairly substantial fare, the victim agreed to drive the perpetrator,” said Fadoli.

Upon arriving at Makasar Police Station, the perpetrator asked the victim to continue the journey to Gang Langgar, Kramat Jati, claiming the arrest target was located there. The victim complied.

Upon reaching Jalan Langgar Road, RT 004 RW 010, Kramat Jati District, the perpetrator made his move. The perpetrator asked to borrow the victim’s motorcycle, claiming he needed the vehicle to move quickly to apprehend the suspected drug offender.

Without suspicion, because he believed the perpetrator was a police officer and was enticed by the 300,000 rupiah payment, the victim immediately handed over his vehicle.

“The perpetrator borrowed the victim’s motorcycle on the grounds that it would be used to catch the drug offender, and the victim immediately surrendered the motorcycle,” said Fadoli.

However, after waiting some time, the perpetrator never returned and instead made off with the motorcycle. Realising he had fallen victim to fraud, the victim immediately reported the matter to police.

Police Hunt the Perpetrator

Fadoli urged the public not to easily trust people claiming to be police officers without showing official identification. Police are continuing to investigate the case by reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements.

“We are still searching for the perpetrator,” said Fadoli.

He stated that his team had gathered statements from several witnesses to uncover the whereabouts of the man. Police are tracing the identity of the perpetrator, who fraudulently used the name of a police official to carry out his crime.

“We have examined two witnesses so far—petrol station security staff,” said Fadoli.

Motorcycle Stolen

The ojek motorcycle was stolen after leaving a fuel station in the Makasar area of East Jakarta. The suspected crime occurred on Friday, 27 February, at approximately 21:30 WIB.

“Yes, the incident did occur at the petrol station here. The perpetrator came to the fuel station claiming to be from the Kasat Narkoba of the Jakarta Metro Police to take the victim’s motorcycle,” said fuel station security guard Agus Sunarya (50).

At that time, a man arrived with the victim on a motorcycle. Agus then coordinated with the commander and the local neighbourhood chief.

However, whilst Agus was still making a phone call to verify the man’s identity, the perpetrator and victim suddenly left the location. Upon arriving at the fuel station, the perpetrator was riding on the motorcycle with the victim, who was known to be an ojek driver.

The victim only returned to the fuel station the next day, Saturday, 28 February, to ask the security guard about the perpetrator’s identity. At that time, the victim claimed he had been hypnotised and his motorcycle had been stolen.

According to the victim’s account to Agus, the perpetrator initially hired his services as an ojek from in front of the Asrama Haji Terminal. This case has gone viral on social media. As seen in the CCTV security camera footage, the suspected perpetrator was wearing all-black clothing and glasses.

In the account’s statement, the motorcycle that was stolen is a 2019 Honda Beat with licence plate number B-5449-TBS. After regaining consciousness, the victim walked from Jalan Langgar, Kramat Jati, to Makasar Police Station to report the incident.
