A man was nearly killed by a mob after allegedly attempting to break into minimarket in Kampung Laes, Kibin District, Serang Regency. The suspect was secured by Cikande Police personnel while being attacked by the crowd. The incident occurred on Monday (29/6/2026) at around 2.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. The suspect, identified by the initials KA (39), was not acting alone but with four accomplices who are still being pursued by officers. The perpetrators tried to enter the shop by breaking through the side wall of the warehouse using a chisel, screwdriver, and crowbar. They had planned the act for when the surrounding area was quiet. However, their attempt failed after the sound of chiselling and crowbar work was heard by several residents chatting on the terrace of a house located right next to the minimarket building. Suspicious, the residents approached the source of the noise to ascertain what was happening. Upon arriving at the location, the residents discovered several unknown men dismantling the minimarket wall. Realising they had been caught, the perpetrators attempted to flee. “Residents then shouted ‘thief’, prompting other residents to come out of their homes and join the chase,” said Cikande Police Chief Kompol Fredo Leonard Sianturi. A chase ensued into the rice fields. Residents eventually managed to capture KA, while the four other perpetrators escaped. The residents’ anger boiled over, and the suspect became the target of mob fury. Fredo stated that Cikande Police personnel moved quickly after receiving reports from the public. “Upon receiving the report from residents, officers immediately went to the location to secure the suspect from the mob. Our priority at that time was to rescue the suspect while controlling the situation to prevent any fatalities,” Fredo said. Having sustained serious injuries from the mob beating, the suspect was rushed to the nearest community health centre for medical treatment. Once his condition allowed, the suspect was taken into custody at the Cikande Police Station for further investigation. The police chief said his team has not been able to extract maximum information because the suspect’s health is still recovering. Nevertheless, the investigation is ongoing to uncover the involvement of the other perpetrators. “The suspect’s condition is still under treatment, so the examination cannot be carried out optimally. However, we have identified the four other suspects and are currently pursuing them,” Fredo stated.
