Man Named Suspect After Assaulting Girlfriend and Seizing Phone Over Infidelity Accusations in Central Jakarta

The Mobile Crime Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate has uncovered a case of robbery with violence committed by a man identified as D (44) against his girlfriend, a woman identified as NM (23), at a boarding house on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta. The perpetrator has now been named a suspect.

“For his actions, the perpetrator has been charged under Article 479 concerning robbery with violence and faces a maximum prison sentence of nine years,” stated a release on the Instagram account @resmob_pmj on Monday (16/2/2026).

The perpetrator assaulted the victim, causing multiple injuries, and seized several of her belongings, including a mobile phone and an ATM card.

“The perpetrator, consumed by anger, carried out the assault, causing the victim to suffer a number of injuries to her body,” the statement explained.

During questioning by investigators, the perpetrator admitted that jealousy drove his actions. He was jealous due to suspicions of a third party in their relationship.

“Based on preliminary examination results, the suspect’s motive for committing this reckless act was driven by jealousy stemming from suspicions of a third party in their relationship,” it stated.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung previously said the incident occurred on Sunday evening (8/2). Initially, the perpetrator had come to the boarding house to chat.

“The perpetrator came to the boarding house, chatted, and asked whether she had another man, which led to an argument,” he said on Wednesday (11/2).

In the early hours of the morning, the perpetrator then checked the victim’s phone. Becoming jealous, he forcibly seized the phone and choked the victim’s neck.

“The perpetrator attempted to forcibly take the victim’s phone, causing a disturbance, and choked the victim’s neck,” he explained.

The perpetrator then fled with the phone. He claimed he was resentful because during their relationship he had frequently bought items for the victim, yet she was allegedly unfaithful.
