Man nabbed trying to use fake card

JAKARTA: Police arrested a man, identified as Jatmiko, for attempting to use a fake credit card to purchase a bed at Mega Glodok in Central Jakarta, Antara reported.

"The suspect attempted to buy a Romance spring bed priced at Rp 2.4 million (about US$245), plus delivery charge of Rp 125,000, using a fake Citibank credit card," Adj. Sr. Comr. Aris Munandar, head of the fiscal, monetary and foreign exchange unit at the Jakarta Police, said on Tuesday.

He said the cashier became suspicious when Jatmiko grew visibly nervous after handing over the credit card to finalize the transaction.

During questioning, Jatmiko said he got the fake card from a man on Jl. Pecenongan in Central Jakarta.

Jatmiko also admitted to using the fake credit card for about Rp 12.7 million in transactions, including a ship ticket to Ternate in North Maluku, and transactions at Super Kitchen restaurant in North Jakarta, Plaza Semanggi in South Jakarta and MSM Metropolis Town Square in Tangerang. --JP
