Man nabbed for robbing driver

JAKARTA (JP): An ex-student of the prestigious privately-owned
Trisakti University has been arrested for his alleged role in
robbing of at least 10 taxi drivers in and around the city.

Chandra Prabowo, in his 20s, was arrested at his rented house
on Saturday, two days after he allegedly succeeded in robbing a
driver of a Steady Safe taxi on Jl. Pertambangan at Pondok Bambu,
East Jakarta.

According to cabbie Janner Sijabat the bogus passenger
requested to be driven to an area in East Jakarta.

Half way to the destination Chandra allegedly threatened
Sijabat at knife point and demanded all his money.

After the Sijabat had surrendered Rp 16,000 (US$7.20), Chandra
alighted from the taxi. Sijabat then went to a nearby police
office and reported the robbery.

Based on a preliminary investigation, Chandra is believed to
have committed at least 10 similar violations against city taxi
drivers, including an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver. (bsr)
