Man mobbed to death for robbing

TANGERANG: An alleged suspect of a taxi robbery was lynched by local residents in Perigi village, Lengkong Wetan subdistrict, in the Serpong district of Tangerang regency after he injured a taxi driver here late on Monday.

Serpong Subprecinct Police chief Insp. Kostbar said on Tuesday that the dead suspect identified as Sangaji, 27, a resident of Pabuaran village, Lengkong Wetan subdistrict stopped a Blue Bird taxi in Blok M, South Jakarta and asked the driver to take him to Ciputat, Tangerang.

When they arrived in Ciputat, the suspect then ordered the driver identified as Prihadi Prabowo, 37, to take him to Serpong through Perigi village, he said.

But when the taxi arrived in Perigi, the suspect pulled out a machete and used it to force the driver to surrender his money, he said.

When the driver refused to surrender his money, they got involved in a fight in the car. The injured driver managed to get out of the taxi and shouted for help. Residents immediately came to his rescue and lynched the criminal.--JP
