Man killed in train accident

JAKARTA (JP): A man was killed when the bajaj (three-wheeled motorized vehicle) he was riding in became stuck in a pothole on a railway track in Cipinang Lontar, East Jakarta, on Monday afternoon, a police officer said.

Chief Sgt. Hendra Rizal of the East Jakarta traffic police said the incident happened at about 4 p.m. when the victim, Sabrani, 60, was transporting five sacks of soybeans in a bajaj.

"When Hamdani, 50, the driver drove across the railway track on Jl. Cipinang Lontar, the train bell had not yet rung," Hendra said.

However, the bajaj got stuck in a hole and Sabrani could not get out because the soybean sacks blocked the door, he said.

"Soon after, the train bell sounded. Hamdani got out of the bajaj and tried to push it with the help of an official at the railway post," Hendra said.

The train slammed into the bajaj with Sabrani still in it.

Sabrani died from severe head injuries. His body was sent to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue. (06)
