Man killed in N. Jakarta brawl

JAKARTA (JP): A brawl between Lagoa and Cilincing residents in Koja district of North Jakarta late on Sunday claimed the life of Cilincing resident Aan Karnadi, 21.

Police took Aan's body to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

M. Ali Jufri, 20, a local resident who first spotted Karnadi's body lying by the roadside, said that the brawl was sparked by a misunderstanding when a group of people from Rawa Badak, Cilincing, came to Lagoa, Koja, at about 10 p.m. on Sunday.

"Lagoa residents thought that the group from Rawa Badak would attack their village," Ali said.

He said Lagoa residents intercepted the Rawa badak residents and attacked them suddenly, forcing the unprepared Rawa Badak people to flee the scene. One of their group, Aan, was killed at the site.

Several officers from Koja and North Jakarta Police, who were deployed at Lagoa, said the brawl was triggered by revenge.

"But this is only our initial analysis. However, the police are still investigating the real motive behind the brawl," one of the police officers said. (01)
