Man Killed by Machete Attack While Sleeping in Bantul Found to Be Joxzin Member

A man who became a murder victim in Kaliurang, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul was identified as a member of the Brigade Joxzin civil organisation. The victim, named Kitin Yoga Tama Rustamaji or YTR (36), had been a member of the organisation for an extended period.

“The victim was indeed a member and belonged to Joxzin,” said Mohamad Novweni, a member of the Legal and Human Rights Team of Brigade Joxzin, to journalists at Bantul Police Station on Friday (22 February 2026).

Known as Hani, he revealed the victim had been a Brigade Joxzin member for more than five years. The victim even possessed a Brigade Joxzin membership card (KTA).

“Since 2019, he has held a Joxzin membership card,” he said.

On this occasion, Hani arrived at Bantul Police Station accompanied by a Brigade Joxzin delegation. They hoped the murder case of their fellow member could be solved.

The delegation arrived wearing black clothing with green Joxzin lettering. Representatives of the delegation were then received by Bantul Police Chief for an audience.

“Well, friends have submitted an open letter to the Police Chief today. The Police also conveyed the efforts already undertaken by the Police in cooperation with the Provincial Police, which means this case has received attention for investigation to be solved more quickly,” Hani told journalists at Bantul Police Station.

Novweni stated that in the open letter, Brigade Joxzin hoped the case would be solved quickly to prevent unrest in the field. Many of his colleagues also felt angry and offended by the incident.

“That is why we request Bantul Police to immediately investigate the alleged perpetrators to prevent unrest in the field and mutual accusations about who the suspected perpetrators are,” he said.

Furthermore, Brigade Joxzin strongly condemned the cowardly action of the perpetrators who attacked with a sharp weapon whilst the victim slept alongside his child and wife. This resulted in the victim’s death and indirectly caused psychological trauma to the victim’s family.

“We, the extended family of Brigade Joxzin, urge Bantul Police to immediately take action and arrest the perpetrators of the murder within 2x24 hours from the time this letter was sent,” he said.

Regarding the motive for the victim’s murder, Novweni claimed not to know. However, Novweni suspected there was a grudge behind the killing.

“The Police also mentioned that there were no missing items. So we suspect this incident occurred because of an element of long-standing revenge,” he said.

Victim Attacked with Machete While Sleeping with Child and Wife

A man died after becoming a victim of assault using a machete at a residence in Kaliurang, Argomulyo, Sedayu, Bantul. The assault took place inside the house whilst the victim slept alongside his wife and child on Wednesday (25 February). Two perpetrators wearing face coverings attacked the victim. After the perpetrators succeeded in slashing TYR, they immediately left the house. The victim’s five-year-old child sustained no injuries, whilst the victim’s wife sustained wounds whilst attempting to block the perpetrators’ attack.
