Man killed by his brother-in-law

JAKARTA (JP): A man was stabbed to death by his brother-in-law in Depok, yesterday, police reported.

Depok police district sources reported that the victim, identified as Hari Utama, 40, was stabbed while involved in a fight with Pur, 35, in his house.

The victim died on the way to the Bhakti Yudha hospital. The perpetrator had been arrested, police said.

The man reportedly had admitted to his offense, saying he was upset when he heard his sister crying because she was being beaten by her husband. He said his brother-in-law was often drunk and attacked his sister, police said.

Mukmin, a neighbor of the victim and leader of the community unit (RT) said he was told by the victim's wife that the incident took place on Monday evening, when the victim had just come home.

The victim was reported to have had an argument with his wife, which was followed by his beating her. Hearing his sister cry, Pur, who lived next door, entered his sister's house. Pur who initially tried to defend his sister became involved in an argument with his brother-in-law, Mukmin said.

The argument was followed by a fight. Pur ran to the kitchen, took a knife and attacked the victim. Hearing the victim's wife shout, the neighbors came and saw the victim already fallen and bleeding from his stab wounds. (01)
