Man Killed By Forklift In Cilincing Port Area, North Jakarta; Operator Detained
A workplace accident occurred in the Cilincing container terminal area, North Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:00 PM, resulting in a fatality, according to Cilincing District Police Chief Kompol Bobi Subarsi.
Bobi explained that the deceased man was not an employee of the container depot. The fatal incident occurred whilst operations were ongoing at the site. “The victim was certainly not a depot employee. It’s an area where the forklift operates,” Bobi stated.
Prior to the incident, the forklift’s path was obstructed by a passing container truck. After the truck cleared, the forklift moved forward, placing the victim in the operator’s blind spot. “The forklift operator likely did not see the victim’s position there. In the blind spot, the forklift struck him,” Bobi explained.
Police are still attempting to identify the deceased man and determine his presence at the container terminal. The forklift operator has been detained at Cilincing Police Station for questioning. “We are still investigating the victim’s identity and circumstances. So far, no one has identified him. (The operator) has not yet been named a suspect; he is being held at the station,” Bobi stated.
Authorities are interviewing witnesses and examining the scene to establish whether the incident resulted from the operator’s negligence or other contributory factors. “We will examine the witnesses first and assess what happened at the scene. Whether there was any intent or whether it was purely negligence by the operator,” Bobi noted. “Whilst negligence may have occurred, there are criminal penalties for causing another person’s death,” he added.
