Man jailed for selling marijuana
MEDAN, North Sumatra: A man has been sentenced to three years in jail and fined Rp 300,000 (US$35) for selling marijuana in the city.
Judge Kilmar Saragih, who presided over the district court session, said Saturday that defendant Syueb received a stiff sentence because he was proven guilty of violating the Narcotics Law enacted last year.
Prosecutor T. Othmansyah had sought a sentence of four years.
Saragih said that Syueb and a woman, the owner of the marijuana, were arrested in October last year when they were making a transaction for five kilograms of the illegal drug with a prospective buyer.
Syueb had apparently been asked by the woman to seek buyers with a promise of payment of hundreds of thousands of rupiah. (rms)
