Man jailed for attempted murder

PALANGKA RAYA, Central Kalimantan: A man was sentenced to nine years imprisonment for trying to set fire to a pilot and copilot during a local flight last March.

Hotman Siahaan, 30, was found guilty by the local district court on Tuesday for attempted murder, Antara reported.

Hotman, an employee of the North Barito regency administration, smuggled eight liters of kerosene and a knife in his bag on to a Dirgantara Air Service flight.

He sprayed pilot Gunawan and copilot Sudono with the kerosene minutes after the plane took off. A fellow passenger, sensing the danger, quickly took down Hotman.

Antara did not reveal if the motive was mentioned in court, saying only that Hotman is also facing trial for the murder of his wife earlier. (rms)
