A single-vehicle accident on Jalan Mahendradatta, West Denpasar, has resulted in the discovery of a homemade firearm. Police have detained a man, identified by the initials WD (42), who was found to be carrying a homemade gun and three rounds of ammunition.

WD was taken into custody by police at approximately 04:00 WITA on Sunday (20/09/2026), following a solo accident on Jalan Mahendradatta. The Head of Criminal Investigation at Denpasar City Police, Commissioner Agus Riwayanto Diputra, confirmed the discovery of the firearm. Police are currently expanding their investigation to determine the origin of the homemade weapon carried by WD.

“The clear starting point was his accident. Subsequently, a firearm was found in his possession. Therefore, we are currently investigating where the weapon came from,” he told detikBali on Tuesday (22/09/2026).

While the specific chronology of the accident was not detailed by Agus, police discovered the homemade firearm during an inspection at the scene. In addition to the weapon, WD was also found to be carrying three rounds of ammunition.

Agus explained that the firearm and ammunition have been sent to the Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) for further examination. This process is intended to identify the type and specifications of the weapon and to confirm whether the ammunition is live.

“We have sent the weapon to the Forensic Lab first. Consequently, the investigation is still in its early stages,” he added.

Meanwhile, the interrogation of WD is ongoing. Investigators are working to uncover the motive behind him carrying the firearm and are also looking into the potential involvement of other parties who may have supplied or entrusted the evidence to him.

WD is currently being held at the Denpasar City Police Criminal Investigation Unit after being transferred from the West Denpasar Police Station.
