Man injured in aborted theft

JAKARTA (JP): Iskandar Zulkarnaen, 26, was shot in the leg by two armed men on Wednesday morning after he succeeded in stopping them from taking a neighbor's motorcycle.

Iskandar, a resident of West Kembangan, Kebon Jeruk in West Jakarta, said he and his friends were playing cards at 5 a.m. on Wednesday when he noticed two men attempting to steal his neighbor's Yamaha Force 1 ZR motorcycle.

Iskandar immediately called his friends, and together shouted "Thief! Thief!" before throwing rocks at the would-be thieves.

The men fired several shots and one hit Iskandar's leg.

As Iskandar fell, the two robbers sped off on their motorcycle parked nearby.

Iskandar was taken to Sumber Waras Hospital in West Jakarta for medical treatment, and was immediately transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for a leg operation.
