Man in Tangerang Nervous During Night Raid, Found with One Kilogram of Marijuana

A man identified as S (40) has been detained by police after being found with one kilogram of marijuana. S was caught red-handed while carrying the drugs during a police raid in the Karawaci area of Tangerang City.

The operation began when personnel from Tangerang City Metropolitan Police conducted Operation Cipta Kondisi as part of JAGA JAKARTA+ on the early hours of Thursday, 29 May 2026, along Imam Bonjol Street in Karawaci, Tangerang City. Officers became suspicious of a Yamaha Mio motorcycle rider who appeared nervous and attempted to evade inspection.

‘After being stopped and searched, the man identified as S (40), a businessman, was found with several ready-to-sell marijuana packages in his shoulder bag,’ said Tangerang City Metropolitan Police Chief, Kombes Raden Muhammad Jauhari, in a statement on Saturday (30/5/2026).

From the suspect, police recovered nine pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes and eight packages wrapped in brown rice paper, totaling approximately 40 grams. Police then conducted a follow-up raid at the suspect’s rental home in Pondok Jagung, Serpong Utara, South Tangerang City.

‘At the second location, we found a large marijuana package wrapped in brown tape with a gross weight of 1,011 grams (over one kilogram). Additionally, a digital scale suspected of being used for packaging narcotics for sale was seized,’ he added.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to distributing marijuana in small packages for sale to buyers in Tangerang and surrounding areas.

‘The suspect’s modus operandi was to package marijuana into small ready-to-sell units for resale,’ he added.

From the total seized marijuana weighing 1.05 kilograms, police estimated that at least 1,051 lives were saved from potential drug abuse.

He faces charges under Article 114(2) or alternatively Article 111(2) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, as amended by Law No. 1 of 2026. The potential sentence ranges from a minimum of six years in prison to life imprisonment or the death penalty.
