Man in Tangerang Arrested for Sexually Abusing Boy Using Pocket Money as Lure

A man with the initials M (31) has been arrested after sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy in Solear, Tangerang Regency, Banten. The perpetrator carried out the depraved act by offering the victim Rp3,000 in pocket money.

Tangerang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Andi M Indra Waspada said the incident occurred on Friday (28/8). At the time, a neighbour of the victim saw the boy with someone they did not recognise.

“Local residents who did not know M became suspicious. This was then reported to the child’s parents and local community officials,” Indra said on Monday (31/8/2026).

According to Indra, the victim’s parents, along with several other people, searched for the boy. They eventually found him at a mosque.

“The victim then recounted what had happened to him. Meanwhile, suspect M was also apprehended by residents not far from the mosque. Residents then took the suspect to a neighbourhood security post,” he said.

Shortly afterwards, police officers took suspect M into custody. During questioning, suspect M admitted to having sexually abused the victim.

“The modus operandi used by the suspect was giving the victim Rp3,000 for pocket money,” said Indra Waspada.

Suspect M is currently being held at Tangerang Police headquarters for further investigation.

Indra reminded parents and the public to supervise and protect their children and to be alert to any suspicious individuals.
