Man in Siak Injured After Being Attacked by Sumatran Tiger While Defecating

A man named Harianto (31) was injured after being attacked by a Sumatran tiger in Sungai Apit, Siak Regency, Riau. At the time, the victim was about to defecate near the camp where he works. The victim is a technical worker or helper for heavy equipment used in land clearing and canal construction. He was attacked by the tiger after leaving the camp to relieve himself at around 7.30pm Western Indonesia Time on Tuesday (21/7). Only about 10 minutes after leaving the camp for the canal, his colleagues heard him suddenly scream. They immediately left the camp to search for Harianto but could not find him. In the darkness, the victim’s colleagues then started the heavy machinery engines and turned on all the lights for illumination. It was then that the tiger was seen attacking the victim and it immediately released its bite. After the tiger fled, the victim was rushed to the auxiliary community health centre in Teluk Lanus Village. Following initial treatment, the victim was referred to Tengku Rafian Siak Regional General Hospital. Confirmed separately, Sungai Apit Subdistrict Head Tengku Muhtasar verified the report. The victim suffered injuries as a result of being attacked by the Sumatran tiger. ‘The incident occurred earlier at around 7.30pm WIB. The victim survived, but lost a lot of blood and has been referred to Tengku Rafian Regional General Hospital. He is already en route,’ said Tengku Muhtasar.
