Man in Riau Arrested for Sexually Abusing Boy After Sending Explicit Photos

Police have arrested a man with the initials MN (32) for sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy in Teluk Meranti, Pelalawan Regency, Riau. The perpetrator’s actions were uncovered after he was found to have sent explicit photos to the victim’s mobile phone.

Teluk Meranti Police Chief, Ipda Vicki Rizki, stated that the case came to light following a report from the victim’s parents. The parents reported the matter to the police after discovering lewd chat messages.

“This case was uncovered after the victim’s parents found suspicious messages and photos on their child’s mobile phone,” said Ipda Vicki in a statement on Saturday (17/7/2026).

The parents then questioned the child about the explicit photos sent by the suspect. The victim subsequently admitted to being sexually abused by the perpetrator.

Enraged, the parents immediately reported the incident to the Teluk Meranti Police.

Following up on the report, Teluk Meranti Police personnel immediately launched an investigation and moved swiftly to the location. Thanks to the officers’ alertness, the suspected perpetrator was apprehended in less than an hour after the report was received, allowing the investigation process to proceed promptly.

Ipda Vicki conveyed that the handling of this case demonstrates the National Police’s presence in providing protection to the public, especially children who are victims of criminal acts.

“As soon as we received the report, personnel immediately moved to investigate, and the suspected perpetrator was apprehended in less than an hour. This is a form of our commitment to providing protection to the public,” he added.

The case is currently under further investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Teluk Meranti Police. The suspect is charged with violating Article 415 letter b of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of nine years.
