Man in North Jakarta Writes Letter Before Stabbing Ex-Wife, Expressing Heartbreak
The suspect typed a letter expressing disappointment and resentment towards the victim in several points before leaving for his child’s wedding reception,” said Tanjung Priok Police Station’s Reskrim Unit Chief, AKP Handam Samudro, when contacted on Sunday (24 May 2026).
Police suspect the stabbing was motivated by revenge, as indicated in the letter. The victim is receiving treatment for a single stab wound.
The incident occurred at 12:00 WIB on Saturday (23 May) at a wedding reception for their biological child held along Sunter Karya Timur Street.
As they shook hands on the reception stage, the suspect suddenly took out a knife he had allegedly prepared earlier, which he had concealed in his bag. He stabbed the victim once during the handshake.
Police promptly responded to the scene after receiving reports from residents. The suspect was arrested and is now formally charged.
“We immediately went to the crime scene to collect witness statements and other evidence. The suspect faces charges under Section 468 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code for premeditated assault, which carries a maximum prison sentence of four years,” Handam said, as reported by Antara on Sunday (24 May).
