Man in Malang Arrested After Ordering Drug-Laced Sweets from England
The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police has thwarted the circulation of sweets containing the narcotic delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in Malang, East Java. Police arrested a man named Abram Jetro Endiera, who is suspected of being the recipient of the package.
The case came to light after the Sub-Directorate III of the Directorate of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim received information from Pasar Baru Customs regarding a suspicious package sent from England to Indonesia on Tuesday (18/8). The package was recorded as being addressed to a recipient with the initials SH in Malang. Officers then conducted an inspection and requested Customs to test the contents of the package.
“The package contained three pouches of the AI brand, each containing 10 candy sweets. After laboratory testing by Customs, it was determined that the candy sweets contained a Class I narcotic of the delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol type,” said Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim, in a statement on Tuesday (25/8).
After learning the contents of the package, police together with Pasar Baru Customs conducted a controlled delivery to Malang on Wednesday (19/8). The case was monitored until Sunday (23/8) at around 8:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, when the recipient was found to have completed payment for the package using a virtual account.
Police then coordinated with the Malang Post Office to deliver the package. Accompanied by officers, a courier brought the package to a house in Jatimulyo Sub-district, Lowokwaru District, Malang City. When the package was received, police immediately arrested Abram Jetro Endiera.
“The Sub-Directorate III team together with the Pasar Baru Customs team arrested a man named Abram Jetro Endiera who had taken the package containing candy sweets with a Class I narcotic of the delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol type from the Malang Post Office courier,” said Eko Hadi.
From initial examination, Abram admitted that the package was his order. Police stated that the suspect purchased the items through a website. “(The perpetrator) has made four orders of packages containing narcotics,” he continued.
Police recorded that the orders were made on several occasions. On 4 March 2026, Abram ordered one pouch containing 10 candy sweets suspected of containing THC. Then on 31 March 2026, he ordered one bar of chocolate suspected of containing THC. The next order was made on 21 May 2026, consisting of one liquid shaped like a candle suspected of containing THC. Finally, on 19 August 2026, Abram ordered three packages of the AI brand, each containing 10 candy sweets suspected of containing THC.
“Based on Abram Jetro Endiera’s statement, all packages suspected of containing THC were intended for personal consumption,” explained Eko Hadi.
In the disclosure, police seized a number of items of evidence. These included one package containing three bags of candy sweets suspected of containing THC, 13 pieces of LSD chocolate suspected of containing THC, one iPhone 14 Pro, and one HP OMEN laptop.
“The total weight of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is 231 grams gross, with an economic value if distributed reaching Rp693,000,000. The evidence is estimated to be able to save around 115 lives from narcotics abuse,” said Eko Hadi.
For this case, Abram is charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustments.
